DevPurge Privacy Policy
The short version: DevPurge does not collect any data. It scans your Mac on your Mac. Your file names, folder names, file contents and scan results never leave your computer. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Purchases are handled by Apple, and we never see your payment details.
1. Who we are
DevPurge is made by PayneBrain LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the DevPurge app for macOS, distributed through the Mac App Store, including the free version and DevPurge Pro.
2. What happens when you scan
To find space you can reclaim, DevPurge reads information about files and folders in the locations you allow: their names, locations, sizes and last-modified dates. It uses this to group items such as Xcode build data, simulator files, caches and large files, and to rate how safe each one is to remove.
- All scanning happens on your Mac. Nothing about your files is sent to us or anyone else.
- DevPurge does not open or read the contents of your documents.
- To spot leftover data from apps you've deleted, DevPurge reads the app identifier (for example
com.example.app) from the apps installed in your Applications folders and compares it with leftover folders. This also stays on your Mac. - The list of items found in a scan exists only while the app is open. It is not saved and disappears when you quit.
3. Folder access
DevPurge runs in Apple's App Sandbox, so macOS keeps it out of your files until you grant access. When you choose a folder (for example your Home folder, Applications, or external drives) in the standard macOS open panel, macOS gives DevPurge a permission token for that folder. The token is stored only on your Mac so you aren't asked again. Deleting DevPurge removes it.
4. What is stored on your Mac
DevPurge keeps a small amount of information in its own app storage on your Mac so it works the way you left it. None of it is sent anywhere.
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Folder permissions you granted | So you only grant access once |
| Whether you finished the welcome screens | So onboarding isn't shown again |
| Your last 20 scans: date, drive name, number of items, total size found and size cleaned | Shows your scan history and lifetime totals |
| Total space cleaned and number of scans | Shows your lifetime stats |
| Space cleaned this month on the free plan | Applies the free plan's monthly cleaning allowance |
| Whether DevPurge Pro is active | So Pro features work right away at launch |
This scan history doesn't include any file or folder names. You can erase everything DevPurge stores by deleting the app.
5. Cleaning and deleting files
DevPurge only removes items you place in your Cleanup Bucket and confirm. By default they are moved to the Trash, where you can restore them. If you choose “Delete Permanently” (DevPurge Pro), items skip the Trash and can't be recovered. DevPurge never sends deleted files, or information about them, anywhere.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
DevPurge Pro is available as an auto-renewable yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store using your Apple Account. We never receive your name, email, payment card or billing address.
To unlock Pro, the app uses Apple's StoreKit on your Mac to check that a purchase is valid. Apple handles that information under the Apple Privacy Policy. App Store sales reports we receive from Apple are aggregated and don't identify you. You can manage or cancel a subscription anytime in your App Store account settings.
7. Network connections
DevPurge doesn't connect to any PayneBrain servers or third-party services. The only connections it makes are Apple's own App Store connections for loading prices, purchasing and restoring purchases, and opening this policy or Apple's Terms of Use in your web browser when you click those links.
8. Privacy disclosures
DevPurge doesn't track you across apps or websites, doesn't use advertising identifiers, and doesn't sell or share personal information. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”.
9. Children
DevPurge is a general-audience utility and isn't directed at children under 13. It doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
10. Your choices and rights
Because DevPurge doesn't collect personal data, we hold no personal data about you to access, correct, export or delete. Everything the app stores stays on your Mac and is removed when you delete the app. If you live in a region with privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or the CCPA/CPRA (California), you still have those rights; contact us with any request or question and we'll respond.
11. Changes to this policy
If DevPurge ever starts handling data differently, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect, and describe significant changes in the app's release notes.
